Seattle Public Schools believes that family engagement is critical to student success. Parents are a child's first and most important teacher and the district is committed to building strong learning-focused partnerships with families. The district is seeking an experienced Family Engagement Coordinator to support school-based strategic planning, professional development, and knowledge management.

Essential Functions

Strategic Planning and Project Management

  • Provides guidance and coaching to schools in the development  of clear and measurable family engagement plans that reflect the needs of the family population and  build accountability and alignment  to each school's continuous school improvement plan..
  • Integrates equity in decision making processes and school-based family engagement strategies.
  • Works collaboratively across organizational lines to share information, coordinate projects and support ongoing district family engagement initiatives.

Professional Development and Capacity Building
  • Develops and provides robust professional development (PD) to support strong school-based  family/educator  partnerships and aligned  family engagement strategies across the district central office departments.
  • Supports  schools' and department's family engagement SMART Goal, and assessment development. Supports continuous improvement and progress monitoring towards family engagement goals.
  • Attends and participates in scheduled internal and external community meetings, training sessions, and relevant professional development in-order to apply the latest school-family partnership research resulting in systemic improvements at all school and district levels.

Communications and Engagement
  • Is responsive to families, colleagues and school leaders' inquiries about matters related to family engagement, providing technical assistance and coaching..
  • Has  strong oral and written communication skills, and ability to adapt approach to various audiences.
  • Represents Seattle Public Schools with external partners, families and the broader community sharing our vision for family engagement and progress.
  • Works with the Communications Department to promote family engagement success stories.

  • Monitors and records strong positive family engagement practices within the district.

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in Education, Social/Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Community Development, or in a related field.

YEARS OF RELEVANT EXPERIENCE:
Three (3) years of experience in developing and/or coordinating effective family engagement programs and learning support activities involving diverse families.

SUBSTITUTION:
An Associate degree in one of the above or related fields and two years of experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSES:
Valid Driver's License.

CONTINUING EDUCATION/TRAINING:
20 hours annually

CLEARANCES:
Criminal Justice fingerprint and background check.

A position that is a 0.5 FTE position or greater is eligible for District benefit plans, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending plans.
